Guessing $150-200 driveshaft shop charge.ģ) New Raxles 5sp axles built with 6sp outer splines ($$ im sure, if even possible)Ĥ) Ship in a O2M DRW from Europe for a full 6 speed TDI conversion, to use standard 6 sp axle assemblies. so now I have a couple decisions to make ġ) Re-press 5 speed "nutted" hubs into the spindles $150 wasted (2 new FAG bearings + shop press charge).Ģ) Cut and weld the 6 sp shaft splined end onto the 5sp shafts. Shop that pressed the new bearings calls me says no go - the 5 speed axle splines that slide into the outer CV joint are smaller on 5sp than 6 speed. Also picked up a set of V6 axle assemblies heard they're a little beefier.įigured no problem, Ill swap the 6 speed CV joints onto the 5 speed axles so they bolt into the 6sp hubs properly. Had new FAG bearings pressed into spindles while Im at it to avoid notorious VW wheel bearing issues later - yes I kept the 6 speed hubs. that may be incurred during the removal and installation of the axles.Swapped MK4 GTI/GLI O2M 6 speed brakes onto my MK4 TDI O2J 5speed car, which meant swapping in the GTI/GLI spindles with the 6 speed hubs (6 speed = "bolted" hub 5 speed = "nutted" hub).
